Abstract:
As quantum technologies mature, it becomes increasingly important not only to build better devices, but also to know when claims about their performance can truly be trusted. I will present a framework for objective quantum certification: tests that a device can pass only if it genuinely has the claimed quality, and that cannot be fooled by hidden imperfections, convenient modeling assumptions, or overly optimistic data analysis. In this sense, the tests are sound: passing them is meaningful evidence that the device really performs well, rather than just appearing to do so under a particular interpretation of the experiment. The broader goal is to turn quantum performance testing into a reliable scientific tool, enabling fair comparison across platforms and helping identify which quantum devices are ready for demanding computational tasks.
