Abstract:
Quantum computers have demonstrated the potential to solve problems that remain intractable for classical computers. Despite remarkable progress in current quantum processors, significant challenges persist in realizing their full capabilities. Quantum acoustic devices have emerged as a promising alternative platform, offering unique advantages through their compact form factor, natural operation at microwave frequencies, and seamless compatibility with superconducting circuits and other quantum systems. In this talk, I will present our recent advances in controlling surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices in the quantum regime. By integrating SAW resonators with superconducting circuits, we have demonstrated the preparation and manipulation of quantum states, including the generation of multi-phonon entanglement between two spatially separated resonators [1]. These results, verified through quantum state tomography, establish new possibilities for quantum information processing with mechanical systems. Furthermore, I will discuss the demonstration of a beam splitter for single phonons—an essential building block for linear mechanical quantum computing [2].
